Three years ago, I had my very first booth at the local Scott’s Antiques Market. Once a month, South of Atlanta, GA, hundreds of vendors come from all over the United States to show off their vintage and antiques finds, combined with some handmade items as well. It was my first time actually being in the show and without my wonderful future husband’s help, I would not have never been able to pull it off! We worked tirelessly for weeks straight, creating unique upcycled furniture from rusty vintage and antique items, including a double sink vanity from an industrial rolling cart to an antique 8 pane window coffee table.
We sat patiently at our booth for three days straight with lots of interest in our items, but not many bites. We were getting really dishearten and sad. Where did we go wrong? Everyone seems to love our creations by why is no one taking them home? We sold a couple of small things, but we were waiting for someone to love our big furniture pieces. On Sunday, the last and final day of the show, we were rushing out the door, walking by David’s Cannon that is always on display in our living room. As the sun glissened off the cannon barrel when I walked by, it caught my eye and immediately stopped me dead in my tracks. “Hey Babe,” I said. “Why don’t we take the cannon to the show today?” Of course David looked first confused, then paced back and forth. I could tell with every step he took, he was probably questioning whether people would like to see his handcrafted creation. What if they don’t understand it? Will anyone appreciate it. “It’s pretty heavy though. You really think its worth it? I don’t know if anyone would even care about it?” He questioned. Of course I smiled and said, “Well there is only one way to find out isn’t there!” And just like that, David’s beautiful cannon he made by hand when he was a young boy, was off to Scott’s with us and boy am I so happy we did!
We placed the cannon front row an center at our booth and I couldn’t believe it. Almost every person, child, man or even pup stopped that day to admire his beautiful cannon. Everyone loved it, and couldn’t get enough of it. Of course I was all too happy to brag all day long about my wonderful, now husband’s, creation! Two of the most common questions I got that day was, “Does it shoot?” and “Do you have that in a miniature version”. “Well, of course it shoots!” To everyone’s utter surprise, “… and no we don’t have a smaller one right now, but I’m sure David could make one for you.” I responded with a spring in my step. Even if we did not sell a single furniture piece that weekend, I was just so thrilled to see the excitement around David’s cannon and from that day on, I vowed to help his dream come true of starting his very own cannon company, Legacy Cannons LLC.
It’s unbelieveable to think it has taken us three very hard working years to get to this point, but we couldn’t be more excited to share our hand crafted gifts with the world. It truly is a gift that will last for many generations. Something a family can hand down and cherish for a lifetime! So welcome to LegacyCannon.com and we hope you enjoy the beautiful cannons and other goodies we have worked so hard to create. Let 2017 start with a boom!
